The situation depends on the program you have been admitted to. If your program is taught mostly in English, your Chinese language skills will not be a problem for your study. However, many programs in Taiwan are still taught in Chinese only, so that will require higher Chinese language skills for you to follow the courses. There are also courses wherein you are required to pass a Chinese proficiency exam to be able to continue on. Once you get in, we suggest you contact the international office and the program coordinator of your university regarding the language requirements.
No. According to the regulation, your passport has to be valid for at least 6 months. We recommend validity of at least 12 months to ensure a smooth application process.
Students entering Taiwan for more than six months should apply for a Resident Visa, which will allow you to apply for your Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) immediately after arriving in Taiwan. There are special requirements that need to be presented to the local Taiwanese representative office to be able to apply for a Visa. Our team of education consultants will be able to assist and guide you to ensure a smooth and worry-free Visa application process.
Yes. You have to join International Student Medical Insurance before you join National Health Insurance. The fee is NTD500 per month. Also, you have to join National Health Insurance after you live in Taiwan for 6 consecutive months. However, we strongly suggest you join a health insurance program from your country before you come to Taiwan, in case of a gap when you arrive.
In Taiwan, the summer temperature is around 28-35℃ with high humidity. From about mid-October, temperatures will gradually drop. January and February are typically the coldest months of the year, with temperatures ranging from 9-15℃. Please bring some sweaters, a winter jacket and a scarf with you. Winter can also be rainy. A waterproof coat is recommended. You can also check the Central Weather Bureau website for detailed information.
